When we began this journey Raven struggled with reading and math, she excelled in science, social studies, education technology, and art. Through sitting with her and working with her one on one I found out her learning style and am happy to say that she is doing so much better in all subjects. I was brave enough to add teaching her Italian, and through learning a different language, her understanding of our language. I find it amazing what children can accomplish by simply listening to them. I encourage parents to get involved with the school board, to volunteer at the schools (if you can't home school) And I ask politicians to stop trying to fix the system that you seem to be making worse.
We need to stop treating our kids like cattle. Each one is unique, each one has a different ability, and each one, if encouraged and taught their way, not a Politicians way, can and will flourish!!!
If you can't home school, but would like to see your child grow mentally and physically might I humbly suggest the following:
Get Art supplies, pull up art lessons on Youtube...And help your child learn to draw. This may sound silly, but in school, they really don't have art.
If you can afford it, get your child into music lessons, if you can't afford it, buy a language learning program and sit with your child every day for 20 minutes and learn another language. The program I use is: unforgettable language by Dr. Gruneberg.
Get your children active. If they like a sport, find a way to get them into it.
Find out what they love...and go with it. Raven loves Science so we do a lot of scientific experiments. They are small scale, like growing plants with different water, or making volcanoes...but they keep her interested. :)
Now I understand that this takes time and energy, and it won't be easy, but I believe it is worth it. As always have a beautiful day.
