Bear with me as I am a storyteller and I tend to read into things a bit deeper than perhaps I should. Before I get to it, let me explain how I got to the thought I am about to share. I have been doing “thought of the day” on my website…as a means to keep sharp and kind of share random things that pop into my head.
On my Facebook page I posted about the federal reserves and wondered how we owed 1.2 trillion dollars to Social Security. My cousin, who I love, read a comment that said Bill Clinton borrowed the money…then she wrote that Ronald Reagan borrowed the money. Two thoughts occurred…the first was…Who in the mother loving F cares who borrowed the money…it wasn’t theirs to borrow.
Next thought, know thy enemy…our enemy…when dealing with trying to educate people on the evil concept of the greater good, utilitarianism, and eugenics…is sometimes the general public who doesn’t know. The general public who buys into the two party system.
Then my thoughts wondered and I said: We must stop fighting. It is these trifle things, that are important, but not the root, you cannot build a house on sand and argue about the bricks…sure the bricks they bought might be bad…but who cares…the house is on sand???? RIGHT.
So then the Beatles Song: I get by with a little help from my friends popped into my head.
I tend to stop and listen when I hear a song pop into my head, because more often than not…they do have a meaning…even if it is simply a perceived meaning…there is meaning nonetheless.
Okay: I love my cousin. We are so different on many things…She accused me of being a republican once…Oh My Gosh…I thought my head was going to explode…so I tell her…I voted for JOHNSON. And her reply: Isn’t that the guy hat wanted to legalize pot. My eyes roll...another example of how we are different. I posted I am against the Affordable Health Care Act…she said that meant I simply didn’t want to pay for insurance. This of course made me mad because I have carried health insurance since I was 18…that’s right folks…I have carried insurance for darn near 20 years…But I digress…
WHY???? Because I love her…and I know she is a good person…and on the fundamental level…as in the ground the house is to be built on…we have the same views. We both love our children and our family, and so I continue to share with her…in hopes that one day she will sit down with me, keep an open mind, and listen to what I have to say.
Back to the song and the profound truth that at least I…found in it…and I wonder…could my interpretation be correct?
“What would you think if I sang out of tune, Would you stand up and walk out on me? Lend me your ears and I’ll sing you a song, And I’ll try not to sing out of key. Oh I get by with a little help from my friends, Mmm I get high with a little help from my friends. Mmm going to try with a little help from my friends.”
MY thoughts: We all need at least a friend who is willing to sit down with us. We need them to hear what we are saying, even if it is going to upset them…and if it does upset them…we need to know they are not going to stand up and walk out on us. And…if they do listen…and they think: By golly you’ve got something here…they can encourage us to run with it (you know get high on your ideas, beliefs, and convictions) With this encouragement we can “try” to change the world, one person, one thought at a time.
In the end, I have found these people. Sometime I upset my friends with my different views. Many people found it odd when I started saying: Umm….I think we don’t have any freedom left…and I pointed out that we don’t get to choose what we do or do not put in our bodies. I pointed out that the so-called notion that The Greater Good…is not a “good” concept…as in reality it is simply mob rules…..But they stood by me, didn’t walk out, and sometimes they argue with me, but in the end, they keep an open mind….And that is what we need right now.
We need open minds!!! We need to surround ourselves with people who are willing to listen. And we too need to keep our minds open. We need to put aside our “differences” and really listen to those we love. We should never become bullies.
As Nietzsche said: “Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster.”
This is very important. If I were to go around calling people, who don’t listen to the truth, “sheep” then in a way I am becoming a part of the problem. It is frustrating I know, but how can you expect someone to listen to you when you are calling them names? Maybe I am wrong. What do you think? How do you “open minds” and “open eyes”
I hate being called a “tinfoil hat wearing conspiracy theorist”…… it hurts my feelings and makes me feel like I have been written off….so the opposite must be true.
To sum up: We must continue to fight the “monsters” We must continue to speak out. We must fix this house built on sand, but we must also have our own foundation. We must have people that are like minded with us…WHY? Its hard to get by without anyone. The stronger you are…the stronger your foundation…the more likely people are willing to listen.
